Frequently Asked Questions

How does 3D printing work?

Most 3D printing creates an object one layer at a time. At Trivance Design, we print parts from rolls of thermoplastic filament using Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). The plastic is melted, extruded through a small nozzle, and laid down with the precise movements of a robot, building up the printed shape layer-by-layer.

What materials can be printed with FFF?

Hard plastics are available in a wide range of colors. We can also print with flexible plastic that resembles rubber. Wood-filled plastic can be sanded and stained. See Materials

How are prices calculated?

The price for FFF printing is based mainly on the amount of plastic needed to make the part. Specialty filaments can cost several times more than basic filaments like PLA.

Is there a minimum order?

The minimum order is $50 which includes trackable shipping by USPS Priority mail.

What are additional costs?

Extrusion-based, layer-by-layer 3D printing (FFF) requires supports be printed under horizontal open areas of parts. This adds material and time during the print as well as time required to remove the supports. The part surface over supports also tends to be rougher than other surfaces. The quoted price will include the cost of support material and post-process time required to remove them.

What colors do you always keep in stock?

For PLA and PETG, we always stock black, red, blue, white and clear. If you prefer another color, just ask.
